Rik Mayall had one really good movie

As I have just introduced my underrated and forgotten category it is unfortunate that a movie has come to mind today

Rik Mayall is best known for his TV comedy work including “The Young Ones. He passed away this week at the age of 56. He is not well known outside of the UK but he did at one point try to “make it in Hollywood”

And he picked a great role, one that very much suited his off the wall comedy style. Drop Dead Fred is a family movie which manages to do the magic of being funny to adults as well as children.

The premise is that children’s ‘invisible friends’ are real and its only the stupid parents who can’t see them. one little girl has an invisible friend played by Rik who is mischievous and naughty. And he also sticks around when the little girl grows up to be Phoebe Cates which proves to be more than a little inconvenient.

You dont need to have a couple of 8 year old’s sat next to you to watch this movie, it works as an adult comedy very well.
