After the second, and less successful, Sex and the City movie, many thought that Samantha, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte had hung up their Manolo Blahnik’s for good. Now it seems, we couldn’t have been more wrong as according to insiders, plans have been put on hold for a third movie because they are bringing back the show for its seventh season.
The general consensus is that after months of meeting, a comeback to the small screen is definitely on the cards, and Sarah Jessica Parker is being tipped as the producer. The final decision is up to Darren Star, the man who actually created the hit US series, but everyone has agreed in principal that resurrecting the show is the direction in which they want to take the franchise, so says a network insider.
The source added that SJP will indeed be the producer, and she had frequently voiced her concerns over a third movie after the poor showing at the box office of SATC2, but bringing back the show is something she is definitely up for. They also confirmed that plans for the third movie have definitely been put on the back burner, and want to rejuvenate interest in the series before putting together another movie.
UPDATE September 14 2016
Sarah Jessica Parker was interviewed on British TV yesterday and said “Today the answer is it’s not on the table but that doesn’t mean it’s not in the warming drawer.”
In one way this is good news in that the project is not ‘dead’ but on the other hand all she is indicating is that some type of talks are still being had with the intention of making a third movie ‘sometime in the future’
