I hesitated to include this trailer in my ‘best ever’ selection quite simply because it seems so obvious. The movie is, of course, an absolute cult classic, if you have not seen it then you cant really claim to be a movie fan.
One of the things I like most about this trailer is in the standard trailer style for for the time (1994) a slightly pompous voice-over announces the many achievements that the movie had already obtained such as winning the Palme D’or at Cannes complete with classical piano playing in the background.
But this is a new kind of director, gunfire erupts the credits are riddled with bullet holes and that haunting riff of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack drowns out the voice-over, and you know this is not a regular movie.
We see a quick shot of that total has-been, long forgotten movie star, John Travolta, but he’s looking amazingly cool, Samuel L Jackson appears with the weirdest hairstyle imaginable, a momentary shot of Uma Thurman whipping the coke from her nose tells us she is serious trouble.
Well if you are under 25 or lived in the Amazon during the 90s check out an incredible scene setting trailer. And if you have already seen the movie 100 times watch the trailer again anyway.
