Steve Coogan brings Alan Partridge to the big screen
Comedian Steve Coogan has announced that is alter ego Alan Partridge will soon have his very own full feature-length film, which is something he has been awaiting for a long time.
Right now, the actor and comedian, well known in Britain for his role in Knowing Me Knowing You that ran for several years on the BBC, but few outside the country knows his name, even though some critics have placed him up there with Basil Fawlty or even Black Adder.
Thankfully for him and his fans, his luck will likely change in the US and elsewhere with this new film and it could well thrust him back into the spotlight. A report from Deadline shows that his film has started filming around the UK and since then the cast actually grew larger with Anna Maxwell Martin, Colm Meaney, Monica Dolan and many more joining the production.
This film is very much a Coogan pet project, and is set to feature a good dozen or well known British cast members and take on the international stage. For those who are not familiar with the narcissistic radio and TV as a presenter, the film will let everyone see how Alan is a prime example of what a mediocre presenter with delusions about his talent is like.
The upcoming film is being directed by Declan Lowney who directed other well known shows such as Little Britain and Father Ted. The script was created by Coogan and Rob Gibbons among others, and the plot will see Alan try to fight for his job at a radio station in North Norfolk, trying to keep the place together after a large company buys the small station out. The release date is set for August 2013.
