James Garner, has died at his home in LA, an ambulance was called at 8pm Saturday but by the time it arrived he had passed away, he was 86.
He is probably most famous for his TV work “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files” but he also starred in more than fifty movies including 1963’s classic “The Great Escape” in 1985 he was Oscar nominated for his performance in “Murphy’s Romance”
My personal favourites are his great performance in the movie version of “Maverick” with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster (If ever a movie deserved a sequel it was this one) and more recently his 2004 moving performance in the cult romance “The Notebook” which he played the older version of Ryan Gosling
Maverick
The Notebook
What a shame – I hadn’t heard. A personal favourite remain’s Murphy’s Romance opposite Sally Feild

So sad to hear of his death. I’ve been trying to think of my favourite James Garner role, and I can’t single one out. He was good in everything! He had such charm and charisma, but was always believable in his role.
